Metallurgical Coal

International Marketing Rights
Due to strategic investments that we have made, we now own the exclusive right to market and sell internationally the coal produced by Cokal Ltd’s Bumi Barito Mineral (BBM) coal mining project in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. BBM has a 20-year lease on a mining concession that covers nearly 15,000 hectares. It will start commercial production in 2022.
Intco has a binding agreement to trade at least one million metric tonnes of the BBM coal per annum. Trades will be done on a Free-on-Board (FOB) vessel basis, with the mining company responsible for delivery up to Taboneo Anchorage, on the southern tip of Kalimantan, where the cargo will be loaded onto mother vessels. This supply will likely increase as development of the mine ramps up over the years. Our marketing focus is Asia, where the world’s biggest users of coal are located.
Hard Coking Coal
This type of coal has a quality that allows it to produce a coke suitable for a blast furnace charge, a crucial process in steel manufacturing.
The hard coking coal produced by BBM fits the bill as it has low moisture content, low impurities like ash, sulfur and phosphorus and a high swell. It contains more than 90% vitrinite.
Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) Coal
This coal is mainly employed for its heat value, and can also be used in certain processes in steel manufacturing as a supplementary fuel to cut production cost.
Our PCI coal also contains low ash, low moisture and ultra-low phosphorus.
